Innovative advanced materials, including several types of nanomaterials and other emerging materials (e.g. highly reactive, multicomponent, multifunctional, etc.) provides new properties and functionalities, but could be the source of complex and uncertain risks. Thus, they need robust, informed, resilient, and precaution-based approaches to risk management. The most recent approaches at OECD and European commission level put an emphasis on the need to develop a “by-design” approach to cope with these risks and develop safe and sustainable chemical products.
Training of all types of personnel engaged in the research, production, and use of these materials in the workplace (including laboratories), as well as those responsible for the risk assessment is essential to understand, anticipate and prevent potential (existing and new) safety and health risks, and promote safety and sustainability since the early stages of development.
PEROSH institutes across Europe offer a unique capacity and competence to advice, support and deliver professional training to both researchers and professional and people delivering training activities (training the trainers).
The webinar will showcase initial results of the Nano-Training project, aiming to develop guidance for harmonized training modules targeting workers involved in manufacturing, handling, and processing of advanced materials. It will provide indication on gaps and needs, themes, tools, and practices for training in the field, and will offer a unique opportunity to meet PEROSH experts.
