CBmed brings together scientific experts with leading pharmaceutical, diagnostic, medical-technology and IT industry partners. CBmed research projects will identify new biomarkers, validate potential biomarkers and conduct translational biomarker research for products to be used in clinical practice.

CBmed will develop easily applicable, targeted, minimally invasive biomarkers for better diagnosis, better therapy monitoring and a more personalized treatment of patients.

FELMI-ZFE –Austrian Centre for Electron Microscopy and Nanoanalysis

The Austrian Centre for Electron Microscopy and Nanoanalysis is one of the leading microscopy facilities in the physical and biological sciences; interdisciplinary research, teaching and industry services are the key to our success. We house some of the world’s best microscopes. Our broad field of activity – ranging from fundamental to applied research – sets us apart. We work in close cooperation with universities and enterprises throughout Europe.

The centre consists of two institutions working together:

  • Institute for Electron Microscopy and Nanoanalysis (FELMI), Graz University of Technology

    FELMI is an institute of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics and Geodesy of the TU Graz. Since 1951, the institute has been addressing challenges in the field of advanced microscopy. FELMI plays a prominent role supporting interdisciplinary and interfaculty research at TU Graz and offers training for bachelor, master, and PhD programmes.
  • Graz Centre for Electron Microscopy (ZFE), Austrian Cooperative Research (ACR)

    The Graz Centre for Electron Microscopy (ZFE) provides collaborating partners and customers access to the latest technologies for advanced materials characterisation, quality control, and failure analysis. As a member of the Austrian Cooperative Research, ZFE works mainly with small and medium-sized enterprises. ZFE is operated by the non-profit Association for the Development of Electron Microscopy and Fine Structure Research.

Research Center for Data-Driven Business & Big Data Analytics

Know-Center conducts applied and interdisciplinary research in the field of computer science in the areas of data-driven business, big data and cognitive computing. To that end, Know-Center works closely with the Institute of Knowledge Technologies of Graz University of Technology in the area of cognitive science. Specific research topics include search technologies, machine learning methods and knowledge extraction from large data sets, presentation and visualization of massive amounts of information, efficient use of information in social media channels, as well as contextualization and personalization of information.

The Kompetenzzentrum Holz GmbH is a leading research institute in the area wood and wood-related renewable resources in Europe. Its core competences are materials research and process technology along the complete value chain – from raw material to finished products. The Research Center for Non-Destructive Testing GmbH (RECENDT) is an internationally well recognized Research Center for Materials Characterization and Non-Destructive Testing.
The expertise in this field has been developed since the year 2000 in the research department for sensor technology of Upper Austrian Research GmbH. RECENDT became an independent company in early 2009. Since then, RECENDT GmbH operates very successfully on the Austrian and international market and supports SMEs as well as big enterprises in the fields of NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) and PAT (Process Analytical Technologies).

The Research Center Pharmaceutical Engineering GmbH (RCPE GmbH) is an interdisciplinary K1-research institute in the area of pharmaceutical process- and product-development in Graz.   The RCPE focuses on the development and production of pharmaceuticals using rational, science-based methods derived from a mechanistic understanding of relevant phenomena at all scales. Our goals are:

  • the development of modern pharmaceuticals and therapeutics
  • new drug-delivery methods and diagnostic tools
  • implementation of new quality-based production processes based on state-of-the-art  scientific knowledge

In addition to the K1 research projects it is our intention to make our research capabilities and technological background available for companies on a service basis.
