The October 2026 edition of SPIRIT of Styria explores, among others, the potential of Advanced Materials (AdMa) to strengthen innovation, sustainability and industrial competitiveness in Styria. BNN’s CEO Andreas Falk explains what defines these innovative materials and why their safe and sustainable development is essential for Europe’s technological future. Furthermore, several successful BioNanoNet association members, e.g., JOANNEUM RESEARCH, Ecolyte, TU Graz, are highlighted for their excellent work in the field of AdMa.
BNN plays a key role in connecting research, industry and policymakers at regional, national and European levels. The organisation coordinates the European project InnoMatSyn, contributes to international efforts to develop a common understanding of Advanced Materials, and supports the Austrian Advanced Materials Community through ATIMA, a nationwide platform fostering collaboration between research, industry and the public sector.
The article also highlights the importance of circularity, resource efficiency and sustainability in material development, as well as the opportunities Advanced Materials offer for sectors ranging from mobility and electronics to energy and life sciences.
Through these activities, BNN helps strengthen the Advanced Materials ecosystem and supports the development of innovative, sustainable technologies with a positive impact on people and the environment.
