The standardization process, including validation and documentation, is often seen as complex and time-consuming, discouraging scientists from advancing their newly developed methods into regulatory standards or OECD Test Guidelines. Nevertheless, scientists can benefit from participating in the process, e.g. by an increased research impact, a broader expert network, and more funding opportunities.

The EU-funded project NanoHarmony published a paper showing the numerous incentives for scientists to be (more) active in the standardization process. The article provides guidance for scientists on navigating the standardization process, with emphasis on method validation as a universal requirement. Resources from the NanoHarmony EU project, such as the OECD Test Guideline Process Mentor (https://testguideline-development.org), support scientists in contributing to safer regulations through active involvement.
