Training programme within the ReachGlio project

At BNN, we are particularly pleased when we can contribute to strengthening the link between regulatory science and cutting-edge biomedical research across European projects.

On 4 and 12 June 2026, BNN delivered a two-part training programme as part of the ReachGlio project. This programme was delivered both in person and online, and brought together researchers and consortium partners working on translational nanomedicine for glioblastoma.

Cancer remains a major public health challenge, and glioblastoma is one of the most aggressive brain tumours. In this context, translational research is essential to bridge the gap between scientific innovation and clinical application, enabling the development of new therapies with real patient impact.
The ReachGlio project unites European institutions working on multifunctional nanomedicines designed to improve drug delivery across the blood–brain barrier and advance treatment options for glioblastoma patients.

Within this framework, BNN delivered the training programme “Understanding Regulatory Pathways and Value Creation in Early-Stage Drug Development” to support researchers in the translation of nanomedicine-based technologies.

The first session, held on 4 June at the Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII) in Madrid in hybrid format, introduced EU medicines regulation, including classification of medical technologies, nanoparticle-based medicinal products, early-stage value creation strategies, and First-in-Human studies.

The second session, held online on 12 June, focused on orphan drug development in the EU, using glioma as a case study. Participants discussed eligibility criteria, the EMA application process, and regulatory incentives linked to orphan designation.

Through these sessions, BNN supported regulatory awareness within the ReachGlio consortium and contributed to advancing the translation of nanomedicine research into future clinical applications for patients with high unmet medical needs.

BNN would like to thank all ReachGlio partners for their collaboration and active participation.
