➜ Overview plan
We are committed to making this event free of charge to our community. However, please understand that costs are incurred for meals and organization according to the number of registered participants. Therefore, we kindly ask you to inform us by email (info@bnn.at) before 23 September 2025, close of business, if you cannot attend physically. This will enable the organizers to offer your spot to a colleague on the waiting list. In case of not showing up without proper notice (before 23 September 2025), you will be charged a fee of 250 EUR to compensate for the costs.
During our Annual Forum we offer you the possibility of visiting the facilities of BioNanoNet’s members and co-hosts of the event Johannes Kepler Universität Linz (JKU), Kompetenzzentrum Holz GmbH (WOOD K plus), Research Center for Non-Destructive Testing GmbH (RECENDT), and Competence Center CHASE GmbH (CHASE). More information about the site visits is available on the agenda below. A detailed map on the event location and site visits will be provided closer to the event to guide attendees across the different stations.
Location of the event: Stufenforum in the LIT Open Innovation Center (OIC) – Altenberger Str. 69, 4040 Linz (Austria) – Building 26 (LIT OIC, ground floor / basement) in this map
Don’t miss our back–to-back event “3rd Austrian Life Science Day”, on 8 October 2025, also in Linz, with a session organised by BNN on „Implementation of safety and sustainability – a core aspect in national & EU-funded projects“. Speakers of this session will be Johanna Scheper (for the project NABIHEAL), Martin Himly (for the project PLANETS), Franz Pirker (for the projects SiToLub, DPP-DigiPass and PEARL-Mat).
Information on the Site visits to JKU, CHASE, WOOD K plus or RECENDT:
JKU (Building 2 (TNF Tower, 7th floor) – Detailed location of IPC institute)
- BIO3: BIOmimetic, BIOcompatible and BIOdegradable sustainable polymers for applications in medicine, pharmacy, agriculture, 3D printing and as engineering plastics – Take a look inside one of our laboratories, where innovative polymers are developed, synthesised, printed and characterised for a sustainable future of synthetic materials that we need to maintain our quality of life.
CHASE (Building 26 (LIT Open Innovation Center))
- LIT-Factory: Showcase of polymer waste recycling at industrial scale – The recycling of polymer waste will be showcased. Increasing the product quality in polymer recycling is crucial to facilitate its broader application. Producing reliable input material for highly regulated markets like food and medtech is envisaged. Holistic process-digitalization shall enable the management of highly variable input materials. The critical process steps will be presented at an industrial scale machinery within the JKU LIT-pilot factory.
WOOD K plus (Building 15 (Science Park 3, ground floor))
- Bio-based Nanomaterials: Functionalization of Bacterial Cellulose for Energy Storage Systems – The production of bacterial cellulose (BC) on industrial side-streams will be showcased. Increasing the productivity of BC production is crucial to facilitate its broader application. The incorporation of heteroatoms during growth of BC is compared with retroactive impregnation.
- Bio-based Nanomaterials: High Temperature Processes & Carbon Characterization – The high temperature processes (carbonization, activation & graphitization) and bacterial cellulose samples before and after thermal treatment will be shown. Porosity measurements and building of electrochemical test cells will be demonstrated.
RECENDT (Building 14 (Science Park 2, 2nd floor))
- From Lab to Application: Process- & Nano-Analytics and Quantum-Sensing – Are you interested in gaining insight into chemical and physical processes on different scales? Talk to the experts in our IR (infrared) & Raman Spectroscopy and Quantum Sensing research groups and discover the opportunities and solutions for research and industry.
- From Lab to Application: Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) – Want to see inner structures in biological samples (or in polymers, ceramics, or fluids)? Do not use your scalpel – try our OCT systems! We provide micrometer-resolution insights in real-time and can support research and industry.
- From Lab to Application: Nano- and Microparticle Analytics – OPTIR & EMILIE – Micro- & Nano-Plastic (MNP) is everywhere. MNPs are detected and characterized by our special tools EMILIE and OPTIR. But it’s not only about plastics: (micro-)particles can often be found in industry (contaminations…) and medical research. We help to get to know them better!
